Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then found multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.
City officials said they were trying "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
